Stanton Flemons' richly harmonized arrangement of this great American folk song features a baritone soloist throughout. Flemons uses a variety of a cappella textures to support the melody, along with some subtle and effective reharmonization and Take-6 style voicings. Stanton can be heard on the demo recording along with Julia Dollison.
The lowest predominant bass note is D, although there's one low C written, and all can be sung up an octave if necessary.
