6-MOVEMENT VOCAL JAZZ MASS BY JUSTIN BINEK
PERFORMED AT CARNEGIE HALL on June 3, 2022, under the direction of John Stafford II
KerryMarsh.com proudly features this six-movement vocal jazz mass composed by Justin Binek. As you'll hear, this is a powerful, fresh harmonic and rhythmic approach to the traditional Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei, as well as a choral benediction using the text of the Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon).
Performable by both traditional and jazz choirs, and with piano accompaniment only or full rhythm section, Missa Lucis can feature one or multiple vocal soloists throughout in the traditional role of the evangelist. The recording featured here is an edited compilation of all of the choral excerpts in the full work, the duration of which can be as little as 25 minutes or up to 40-45 minutes, depending on the use of the available improv solo space. Horn parts are included and are optional (with the exception of the necessary soprano sax solo on the Agnus Dei), as the instrumental solos may be performed by piano, guitar or a vocalist (again, with the exception of the Agnus Dei). The piano part is fully notated, so pianists without a solid jazz background can perform the work comfortably. Bass, guitar and drum set parts are also included in the package.
