Chart Info
Bill Withers' 1970s classic is one of the steadiest-grooving tunes of its generation, and it's arranged here to feature both the ensemble and an alto (or high tenor) soloist on the lyric, as well as a brief moment of R&B-style lyric improv. The rhythm section parts are driving and consistent throughout in their support of the vocals, and after the chart builds up to an exciting climax toward the end, it winds down to a hip, quiet finish. Written with no piano accompaniment (although chord changes are included in the vocal and bass parts in case you'd like to add a chording instrument), this arrangement's texture feels like a pseudo-acappella approach, leaving space for the ensemble vocals to really shine.
