      SkyTracks Mixer

SkyTracks Mixer, the newest vocal jazz ensemble teaching tool added to KerryMarsh.com, gives students and teachers access to a MULTI-TRACK audio interface containing all of the parts for an arrangement demo recording. This new tool essentially replaces the need for Vocal Part Tracks, Minus-One Tracks and Rhythm Tracks for that title. However, every SkyTracks Mixer order also includes links to download all of those tracks, for cases in which those tracks are valuable to your chosen educational workflow.

New for 2021: SkyTracks Mixers are now compatible with iPhone and iPad by installing the free SkyTracks app from the iOS App Store!

Similar to the functions found in Garage Band, Pro-Tools, Logic or Digital Performer, SkyTracks allows anyone to selectively mute and solo (isolate) the all the various voice-parts in an arrangement. It gives more subtle control over the mixing levels as well, and allows the flexibility to create mixes that you haven't had access to in the past.

Note that in additional to all of the above, every SkyTracks Mixer order includes a link to download the recording "stems" from the demo, allowing you to import these tracks into your own Digital Audio Workstation, if you choose.

Below, you can try out SkyTracks Mixer for Kerry's arrangement of "Baby Won't You Please Come Come". Simple instructions for how you can use this interface are found if you scroll further below.

We're pleased to be able to feature a scat solo on this demo by a special guest, Aimee Nolte! Aimee is a phenomenal jazz vocalist, pianist and educator who run a very popular and useful jazz education channel on YouTube, and we're thrilled to have been able to work with her on this track! Make sure to check out her YouTube channel for hours of top-notch, informative, entertaining content!

Quick Guide to Mixing Your Own Learning Tracks using SkyTracks

Each voice-part has its own TWO tracks that contain all the notes of that part.
To create a personalized Vocal Part Track for this arrangement, you should click the S button (for "Solo") on your TWO tracks listed below.

To create a Minus-One Track (which removes everything in your part, allowing you to practice filling in the missing notes like you will in your ensemble), you should click the M button (for "Mute") on your TWO tracks listed below.

To create an Accompaniment Track (which I usually call a "Rhythm Track"), you should click the S button (again, for "Solo") on the Guitar, Piano, Electric Bass and Drums tracks.

A special feature for this demo, you can hear a scat solo recorded by Aimee Nolte (by default) or mute that track and unmute the track with a scat solo by Kerry Marsh.

      In addition...

For Part Tracks, you may wish to also SOLO the Metronome Track to help you keep time
Or, you may wish you SOLO any combination of the Guitar, Piano, Electric Bass and/or Drums tracks, for reference as you listen to and learn your isolated vocal part.

Practice singing the lyric vocal solo part by MUTING the top, red track called "Lyric Solo" and filling that in yourself, or practice singing the scat solo by making sure both the "Aimee Nolte Scat" and "Kerry Marsh Scat" tracks are muted.

To hear a mix of only the vocal parts, MUTE the guitar, piano, electric bass and drums tracks.
Play around with more subtle variations in the mix to help you practice your parts by controlling the VOLUME SLIDER (often called a "fader"), which is just below each track's name (in color).

Work toward singing without your part being supported at all (to gain part-singing independence) by starting with all the parts at full volume (which is, rather weirdly, called "0dB" in the world of live sound and recording technology), and then, on each successive practice, moving your TWO tracks to the left a bit until you've turned them off entirely.
